Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Angie Goff and her son, Caleb Goff, along with Dusty Bowling chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Winds were out of the east at 5 mph with blue skies and temperatures in the mid 90’s. Caleb’s enthusiasm was high as he boarded the boat – Angie advised that he has been looking forward to this day for some time. I asked the anglers what type of fish they were interested in catching - Dusty said a big one, while Caleb said any type of fish.

We left Bahia Mar Marina and on our way out I pointed out some of the famous homes on the Intracoastal Waterway – such as the Budweiser’s and Wendy’s estates. Fifteen minutes later, lines were in 120 ft. of water north of Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. With little or no current, it is a good practice to fish over any artificial or natural structures that will hold the bait fish – the predators will not be far behind. Off of Fort Lauderdale, there are 34 artificial wrecks. To obtain these locations, you can purchase a chart at any tackle store.

Caleb was our first angler as we trolled the reefs, and he caught three Bonitos and two Tunas. It was now Dusty’s turn to do some Shark fishing. We headed out to the Shark area where there is a wreck that sits in 350 ft. of water. We put out three Shark baits – one surface, one midrange and one bottom. The trap was set as we sat waiting for his arrival. After a 45 minute wait, it was almost time for the fat lady to sing. There he is on the surface bait!!!! Hooked up!!!!! The fun started as Dusty jumped into the fighting chair. After a twenty minute battle, Dave, our mate, wired the Hammerhead Shark for picture taking and then was released to fight again.

With mission accomplished, it was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
