Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Lucas Wyant and Kristina Verhalen from St. Louis were in Fort Lauderdale enjoying our world famous beach and decided to charter the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This was their first time out fishing. Winds were out of the east at 5 mph with blue skies and temperatures in the high 80’s.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started off trolling the reefs with two plainers down – one with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip and the other was a chartreuse sea witch with a double hooked Bonito strip. As we trolled the reef, Kristina was our first angler and she reeled in a Barracuda and later a Tuna. Lucas was up next – the plainer rod tripped, the line came up to the surface – very strange for a Kingfish or your average fish that you catch down deep. When the line hit the surface, the Sailfish came out of the water jumping and threw the hook.

From there, they wanted to try their luck with Shark fishing so I headed out to an area in Fort Lauderdale in 350 feet of water. We put out three Shark baits – surface, midrange and bottom. I had some live Goggle Eyes left over from our morning charter so I put the kite out with two live Goggle Eyes on the kite. It did not take long for the surface bait to be hooked up as the line exited the 80 International Reel. Lucas jumped into the fighting chair to do battle. While Lucas was fighting his fish, the long kite bait was hooked up – another Shark. It was Kristina’s turn to have fun. As Lucas got the Hammerhead Shark closer to the boat, Dave, our mate, wired the Shark to the boat for picture taking and release. The estimated weight was 230 lbs. Now it was Kristina’s turn to bring in her Hammerhead Shark. Pictures were taken and the Shark was released. For first time out anglers, they did an excellent job.

Lucas and Kristina retired into the a/c salon with the TV on and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
