Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
The Hopkins family, Dennis, Trent, Chris, Tonya and Glenda, from Virginia chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Today winds were out of the east at 14 mph, seas running 3-4 ft., temperatures in the mid 80ís.
We stopped on our way out to pick up a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait, which is located on the inlet. Our drop off is 1.8 miles from shore in Fort Lauderdale. Due to our extreme drop off, if you venture of another ľ of a mile you would be in 500 ft. of water. We started off trolling with two plainers, each having a sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we went with Ballyhoos and Bonito strips.
After trolling for a short time, I noticed a color change and rip forming in 180 ft. of water, a perfect avenue to set up kites. We put out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite and one from the rigger. Our first strike came on the left long as Trent hopped into the fighting chair and reeled in a good size Mahi Mahi weighing 12 lbs. From there we reset the kites again and a black shadow appeared belonging to a Sailfish. Dave, our mate, splashed the bait up and down but the Sailfish showed no interest in feeding. We continued kite fishing and waited for our next predator. Mahi Mahiís kept popping up and Trent along with the other anglers kept catching them, ending up with a total of five Mahi Mahiís. All the anglers did a great job in bringing in all their fish.
It was time to head back - all the anglers relaxed in the a/c salon for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
