Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

John Gould along with Dean Devryes and Steve Yuska from Toronto, Canada chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. John is a charter boat captain for Salmon fishing on the Great Lakes so on our way out to the fishing grounds, we discussed and compared the different types of fishing techniques.

Winds were out of the east at 12 mph, seas running 3-4 ft., with clear skies temperatures in the mid 80s, a big difference compared to the single digit temperatures our anglers left at home.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in the water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL located in 120 ft. of water. We put two plainers down, one with a 3 blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hook Bonito strip. Both plainers were #8s. For surface baits we went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips. With 34 artificial wrecks located here in Fort Lauderdale FL in Broward County, my plan was to troll over some of them. As I trolled over the wreck that sits in 220 ft. of water, the top line came down, but the fish pulled the hook. I made another circle around the wreck, the outrigger came down again this time we had a solid hook up. Steve hopped into the fighting chair the rod tip going up and down and the line screaming off the reel indicated this fish was a Wahoo, as the Wahoo shook his head from side to side. Steve retrieved the line, Jackson, our mate, leaned over the side to gaff the Wahoo, while avoiding his razor sharp teeth as he opened and closed his mouth. Great fish for dinner!!! John remarked that he would like to do some Shark fishing as the previous day we had luck in catching a Hammerhead Shark in 350 ft. of water. So, we set out our Shark baits, but no luck.

With Wahoo on the menu for tonight, the anglers went into the a/c salon for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
