Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak
Jesse Gin and Clay Sleipworth chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Conditions for the day were 2 to 3 ft. seas with clouds and rain and easterly wind blowing 12 mph.
Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started fishing at the sea buoy, north of Fort Lauderdale in 150 ft. of water, trolling the reefs using two plainer rods with strip baits and 4 surface lines with Ballyhoos. Trolling the reef means we went from shallow depth to deeper depth hunting for the big school of fish.
I made a few turns into shallower water and got a bite on the plainer rod. Plainer rods have been very effective for Kingfish and Bonitos as they get down 50 to 60 ft. of water. The first fish caught was a Kingfish weighing 10 pounds. We continued trolling and caught a few Bonitos and another two Kingfish weighing 7 to 10 lbs. in 175 ft. of water, which were a little deeper off the reef line. I went over reefs, sunken wrecks and rock structures looking for more fish.
We headed down south and continued catching another few Kingfish and Bonitos. We did try going deeper for Black Fin Tuna with no luck.
With a total catch of 5 Kingfish and 6 Bonitos, it was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
