Nice day out last weekend for John & Cristine Kelly, the offshore bite for Mahi Mahi was good out of Ft. Lauderdale. The seas were calm and the bite was decent. The catch for the charter boat was 5 Mahi and a Wahoo. Heading offshore in South Florida can be a gamble, sometimes you will find the right weedline or floating debris which holds bait and the pelagic species like Mahi, Wahoo and Marlin feed on these baitfish. Othertimes fishing off Fort Lauderdale we are not soo lucky heading offshore and do not have the same catch. So the we resort to plan B. Head inshore and live bait for Sailfish which has shown to be a good October with over 10 Sailfish which is a good indication of the winter bite. So whether we are fishing offshore off Ft. Lauderdale or inshore for Sailfish, there is action and with the cold fronts and currents, the season for Sails is about here.
The Mahi bite this year has not been as successful as prior years. Seems the fishing for Mahi has shown smaller fish and fewer of them.
As far as fishing for Amberjack and Snapper, we have had a good bite.
