Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak
Florida Regional Managers from Waffle House, Marc Handel, Nate Thompson and his wife, Jessica, Quinton Veal and Jeremy Diez, were in town on a convention and chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing. As the group boarded the boat, they were greeted by the Topshotfishing team. The anglers were asked what they were interested in catching and their reply was – “food for the table”.
Fifteen-twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started off trolling with two #8 plainers down with sea witches and double hooked Bonito strips. For surface baits we went with three Ballyhoos and one Bonito strip down the center.
As we trolled the reefs, the two plainer rods were hot – all the anglers took turns bringing in their catches. The blue indigo water was moving into our second reef and along with that it brought sargassum weeds. Black shadow on the left long!!! The Sailfish’s bill protruded through the water and ate the Ballyhoo – hooked up!!! This Sailfish exited the water erratically showing his brilliant neon colors with the sun shinning on it while tail-walking - Nate jumped into the fighting chair to do battle. Dave, our mate, cleared the rest of the lines to avoid a Chinese fire drill. The Sailfish was heading south but changed directions and started heading north and then changed directions again and headed straight towards the boat – what a sight!!!! After twenty minutes of fun, Dave billed the 55 lb. Sailfish for picture taking and was released to fight again.
We reset and another black shadow appeared on the right short. Marc was our angler on this fish. Before Dave could clear all the lines, Marc brought the Sailfish to the side of the boat, and Dave billed the 3 ft. Sailfish for picture taking and was released.
With a total of 2 Sailfish, 1 Wahoo, 8 Kingfish, 8 Mahi Mahi’s, 5 Barracudas and 4 Tunas, it was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock. At the dock, Dave filet out their catch for the night’s dinner.
