Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Paul, Krister and Harry Matter along with friends, Mike Beachy and Chris Holt from Columbus, Ohio chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL. Winds were out of the northeast 12-17 mph, seas were running 4-5 ft., temperatures were in the high 70’s with blue skies.
Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you will find the depth to be 500 ft. due to our extreme drop off.
We put down two plainers, one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we put down two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips. As we trolled the reef, we caught three Kingfish and two Bonitos. From there I headed north of Fort Lauderdale to one of 34 artificial wrecks located in Broward County, which produced one nice Wahoo. I could see on the depth recorder that the wreck was holding some bottom fish so I made a drop on the wreck and caught a 45 lb. Amberjack. Paul asked if there were any Sharks around and so I put out a Shark bait which produced a 7’ Hammerhead Shark. Pictures were taken and the Shark was released to fight again.
With fish for the dinner plate we headed back while the anglers retired into the a/c salon aboard the Happy Day Today for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
