Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Father and son, Brad and Zak Brody, from Iowa decided to do some father and son bonding, so what better way to accomplish this than to go on a deep sea sport fishing charter in Fort Lauderdale aboard the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team. We had variable winds at 5-7 mph, blue skies, and temperatures in the high 70ís.

We stopped to purchase a dozen Goggle Eyes at T & T Bait in the inlet in Fort Lauderdale. There was little wind but high hopes that the wind would pick up later in the charter so we could fly the kites. Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, we started off trolling at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale with two plainers down, one with a 3 Ĺ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a double hook Bonito strip with a chartreuse sea witch in front of it. For surface baits we went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.

I headed to an artificial wreck thatís located south of Fort Lauderdale in 180 ft. of water. With no luck and still no wind to fly the kites, I trolled to three other wrecks. We caught a couple of Kingfish over one of the wrecks and a couple of Bonitos over the other wreck. Finally, we got very little wind, so we flew an ultra light kite on a 20 lb. test line with two live Goggle Eyes from the kite and one from the rigger and a Shark bait on the bottom. A splash appeared on the long kite bait and we hooked up with a Mahi Mahi for a short period of time but he threw the hook. After resetting the kite, we caught a Bonito. As we were sitting hoping for a black shadow to appear, the short bait started acting erratic, which is a tell tale sign that a predator was close by. A Bull Mahi Mahi exited the water as he ate the live Goggle Eye Ė the fight was on!!! After a nice run, Zak brought the Mahi Mahi to the boat as Jackson, our mate, gaffed the fish. Bradís comment was that the Mahi Mahi would be their dinner for tonight.

After a good time of father and son bonding, it was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
