Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Greg Johnson and his wife chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing Team to do some sport fishing off of Fort Lauderdale FL. Greg just retired from the US Air Force and has been traveling to all different parts of the U.S. to find a suitable place to settle down – so far, Ft. Lauderdale was his choice. We had blue skies, a brisk wind out of the east at 17 mph and 4-6 ft. seas.
We started fishing Fort Lauderdale FL at the sea buoy in 120 ft. of water, 1.8 miles from shore, twenty minutes after leaving the dock. We had two plainers down, one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a Mullet strip with a pink and blue sea witch in front. For surface baits we had two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips. I headed towards one of our 34 artificial wrecks in Fort Lauderdale FL that sits in 350 ft. of water. On my way to the wreck, we could see schools of Mullet sitting in 150 ft. of water as the migration of Mullets are heading to the south with the predators not too far off. Our first strike was on the surface bait which was a Black Fin Tuna. From there we kept catching more Tunas and a couple of Kingfish and some Oceanic Skip Jacks.
With over a dozen fish in the fishbox and running out of time, we headed back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. When we reached the dock, Jackson, our mate fillet the catch for Mrs. Johnson – they will be having fish for dinner for quite a while.
