Anthoer good day of fishing off our South Florida waters. Fort Lauderdale fishing for Sailfish gets very good in the months of December through April. We are fortunate to have a good run of Sailfish, Mahi, Swordfish and King Mackerel during our winter months. There are two methods of targeting Sailfish and all palegic (migratory fish) off Fort Lauderdale. There is slow trolling bait (5 Ballyhoo's on the surface with strip baits) and there is live bait fishing for the palegic species. Depending on multiple conditions (water temperature, wind direction, currents, and structure) can make for a very productive day of fishing. On Wednesday we did just that, first started out catching bait at the bouy, then we trolled the Ballyhoo and deep baits over the reef which is about 150 feet of water. We call the 100 to 150 depth fishing on the reef. Fish we are targeting in Florida are Sailfish, Mahi, King Mackerel and Barracuda. After we caught a couple King Mackerel, then we switched to live bait fishing for the palegic species off Ft. Lauderdale, focusing on the Sailfsh. Sails make for a fun catch for everyone. They jump, run, go deep and grey hound on the surface. Its really a fun way for the entire boat (charter and crew) included to experience the Sailfish doing her thing.
