Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak
Samantha Cortese and her boyfriend, Kyle Quance, from St. Petersburg, FL chartered the
Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale,
Florida. We had winds out of the east at 5 mph with temperatures in the low 90’s. As
the Topshotfishing team greeted the anglers while boarding the boat, I asked them what
they were interested in catching on this trip, and their response was a “good time”.
Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in
Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. Kyle, a boat owner in St. Petersburg, was amazed
that it only took us such a short time to get to the fishing grounds compared to the 35
miles he has to travel in St. Petersburg.
We started trolling around with two #8 plainers down and four surface baits. Each
plainer had a sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we had
Ballyhoos and Bonito strips and a daisy chain teaser. For the past couple of days, schools
of Kingfish have been in the area off of Fort Lauderdale so we targeted the action. As we
trolled the reefs, ranging from 90 ft. out to 185 ft. of water, Samantha and Kyle took turns
bringing in their catch and taking pictures of each other while doing so. Their total catch
was 7 Kingfish ranging from 5 to 12 lbs., 1 Barracuda, and 3 Bonitos.
As it was time to head back to the dock, Samantha remarked that not only did she have a
“good time”, she had a “great time” and thanked us. With another satisfied and happy
customer, the anglers retired into the well appreciated a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing
trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
