Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Otis and Jametra Wright from Chicago chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep-sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The Wright’s are repeat customers, and this is their third fishing trip with us. As Otis boarded the boat, we questioned him as to what type of fishing he wants to do. His response was that he wants to get some fishing practice before heading out to his trip to St. Thomas for Marlin fishing.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started the trip trolling using two deep lines with a double hooked Bonito strip with a sea witch in front and 3 surface lines with Ballyhoos. We trolled north of Fort Lauderdale in waters ranging from 80 ft. out to 250 ft. depth. Our first couple of fish were Kingfish “ Otis was the main angler while Jametra recorded the action for her husband.

I could see a weed line further off to the east of Fort Lauderdale sitting in 400 ft. of water, so I headed out towards it. Once I got to the weed line, I trolled on the weed line south of Fort Lauderdale due to a strong north current. We worked the weed line for about a mile with no luck, so I left and headed to one of our 34 artificial wrecks that sit off of Fort Lauderdale. This particular wreck, a tug boat, sits in 172 ft. of water. This area has been quite productive in the past few days for holding bait fish, and in return the predators are not too far behind. As we worked the area, the center rigger came down. The rod bent over and took line off of the Shimano 25. Otis was the angler, and after a 17 minute battle, Dave, our mate, gaffed a nice Black Fin Tuna, as he welcomed the Tuna aboard the Happy Day Today, weighing 22 lbs. Thereafter, both Wrights took turns brining in their catches “ a total of 2 Tunas, 4 Bonitos, and 4 Kingfish.

After a great fishing charter, it was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. At the dock, Otis remarked how good it was to see a father and son, Captain Dave and Captain Tom, working together in their family business. It reminded him of him and his three sons working together in their family law practice. I thanked him for his compliment and let him know that we are a three generation family business since 1974.
