Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak
Don Revis along with his 11 year old son, Sam, and friends from Fort Lauderdale chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team for a private deep sea charter boat sport fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This fishing charter was a birthday gift for Sam. Captain JB was at the helm.
Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. If you venture off another of a mile, you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water, which we exclusively have here in Fort Lauderdale, due to Fort Lauderdale’s extreme drop off. The further north you go, the further the drop off swings off shore.
We started trolling the reef line drop off north of Fort Lauderdale with two planners down, one with a 3 blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we went with 4 Bonito strips. As we trolled the reef, the anglers took turns bringing in their catches, which were Kingfish.
From there I decided to make a drop on one of our 34 artificial wrecks located in Fort Lauderdale in 210 ft. of water looking for a Grouper/Snapper. The rod bent over and after a 10 minute fight, our mate, Dave, wired in a 40 lb. Amberjack. Pictures were taken, and the fish was released.
I decided to do some Shark fishing so I headed out to an area east of Fort Lauderdale which was very productive this week for Sharks located in 350 ft. of water. We put out three Shark baits “ one on the bottom, one midrange and one on the surface. Suddenly, our bottom rod bent over “ hooked up “ as the line sped off of our 80 International Reel. Sam, this is your birthday gift!!. Sam hopped into the chair to do battle. The Shark broke water, and Dave, wired in the Hammerhead Shark for picture taking, and the Shark was released to fight again. Great job Sam!!
With smiles on the young angler’s face, it was now time to head back to the dock. The happy anglers retired into the a/c salon watching the plasma TV and enjoying the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
