This Sailfish was caught off Ft. Lauderdale, FL off South Florida in about 145' of water. Most of the fish we catch are anywhere from 125' to 175' feet of water. The Sailfish run along the reef and wreck structure which is just in the 140' to 165' range.
Using a kite, the baits are presented in a school of bait. As as Sailfish looks up, they see 4 or 5 baitfish which is when the battle begins. You have the option to use either stand up fishing tackle and or sit in the fighting chair and start on fight. Also when we are fishing out of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl, we are putting a bottom bait down on the bottom as there are snapper and grouper. As we drift, there is a weighted bait that is drifting in 100' feet of water, about 30 to 50 above the reef which does generate good bottom bites off our South Florida Wrecks.
To book a fishing charter with Captain Tommy Zsak, please call to discuss the current fishing conditions, where the best bite has been and when we think the next bite may be arriving. The Sailfish are always in our waters off Ft. Lauderdale, however there are indicators that show when the fishing bite will be strong. For example cold fronts push these fish and the bite turns on.
